You have to SEE it before you can CHANGE it.

Organisational change is complex and involves activities across multiple disciplines.

Using images to help people have deeper conversations and develop new insights is powerful because 93% of information transmitted to the brain is visual, and visuals are processed 60,000 times faster in the brain than text, this is why Visual Literacy is so important.

On Facebook, for example photos perform best for likes, comments, and shares as compared to text, video, and links.

Dr. Lynell Burmark, Ph.D. Associate at the Thornburg Center for Professional Development and writer of several books and papers on visual literacy, said,

 

…unless our words, concepts, ideas are hooked onto an image, they will go in one ear, sail through the brain, and go out the other ear”.

 

What tools are you using to implement your Change Management policies?

Words are processed by our short-term memory, images go directly into long-term memory where they are imprinted. Therefore, it is not surprising that it is much easier to understand what a triangle is by seeing it than describing it; literally or numerically. Have a look below, see for yourself.

L. Bruce Archer* proposed that the way people solve problems is to form images in their minds eye, manipulating and evaluating ideas before, during and after externalising them. This constitutes a cognitive system comparable with but different from, the verbal & literal language system.

Human beings have an innate capacity for cognitive modelling, and Visual Literacy is fundamental to human thought, you just have to be able to see it, identify it before you can change it.
